3、2、1……起飞!NASA 正式启动了第二次探索学生挑战的力量,呼吁美国的 K-12 学生了解放射性同位素动力系统 (RPS),然后设计一个新的以 RPS 为动力的太空任务,为他们的太空探索梦想注入活力。RPS 是一种核“电池”,60 多年来,它使许多航天器能够探索一些最恶劣、最黑暗的环境,以及我们太阳系最远的地方。

探索学生挑战的力量是 NASA 努力让学生参与太空探索并激发对科学、技术、工程和数学的兴趣的一部分。

“放射性同位素动力系统使一些最令人兴奋的科学成为可能,”美国宇航局科学任务理事会副主任托马斯祖布臣说。“它们使探索我们太阳系的极端环境成为可能,这是任何其他技术都无法达到的。我迫不及待地想看看学生们为太空探索的未来计划了哪些 RPS 驱动的任务。”

参赛作品截止日期为 2023 年 1 月 17 日,将在三个年级类别中进行评判:K-4、5-8 和 9-12。学生条目,字数限制在 200 字以内,应说明使命的目的地和目标,并描述学生拥有的有助于使命的独特“力量”或品质。

每个年级类别的大奖获得者(共 3 名获奖者)将获得两人前往位于克利夫兰的 NASA 格伦研究中心的旅行,以了解为 NASA 任务提供动力的人员和技术。所有参与者都将收到一份数字证书,并受邀参加与 NASA 专家一起参加的虚拟活动,学生们将了解是什么推动了 NASA 员工的远大梦想和探索。每个年级的 15 名国家半决赛选手(共 45 名半决赛选手)将获得 NASA RPS 奖包,每个年级的三名国家决赛选手(总共 9 名决赛选手)将获得与 NASA RPS 专家的虚拟会议。

关于挑战

该挑战赛由 NASA 科学任务理事会的 RPS 计划办公室资助,并由未来工程师在 NASA 锦标赛实验室的指导下进行管理和管理,该实验室是 NASA 空间技术任务理事会奖品、挑战和众包计划的一部分。
